Hardcore Bondage Magazines

Bondage mags specialize in the depiction of sexual activities involving bondage or fetishness such as BDSM.

Bondage mags started life in the early 20th century disguised as "detective magazines" which allowed publishers to show bondage imagery outside the mainstream hardcore pornography. One of the earliest magazines which showed images of bondage was the famous "bizarre magazine" which ran from 1946 to 1959 and showcased work from John Willie a pioneer for fetish photography. Bondage magazines disappeared along with the rest of pornography following the crackdown in the 1950's.

The 1970's saw the return of bondage magazines and they were generally only sold through sex shops or mail order. There was little interest at this time by advertisers so the magazines themselves were only supported by the cover cost. Most bondage mags are printed in black and white as they often have a more "arty" feel to them. During the 1980's it was trialled using colour but sales slumped as it seems that the clientle who enjoy bondage mags found them more enjoyable when presented in black and white so publishers quickly reverted to the popular demand.

Orginally, bondage mags showed only women in bondage gear but these days it is common to see both types and mixed variations readily available to cater for everyones individual fetish and taste.

Since about 2003 and the growing popularity of the world wide web, a lot of bondage mags have ceased circulation but for many it is still hugely popular and many followers like to build a large collection of bondage art books, magazines and pictures.
