Inflation fetishism

Inflation fetishism, also known as expansion fetishism, is the sexual attraction to the expansion of certain body parts, usually the breasts, buttocks and belly, sometimes to the extent that the subject becomes completely spherical except for her head, hands and feet. Such expansion, in practice or in fiction, may be caused by the body parts filling with air, water, blueberry juice, food, or essentially any fluid.
Since the nature of inflation fetishism is hard to accomplish in reality, most fetishists enjoy this unusual fetish on a purely imaginary level, resorting to morphed photographs, drawings, and stories to fulfill their desire.
Most inflationists enjoy the process of inflation at least as much as (or sometimes to a greater extent than) the end result of an inflated (almost always female) person.
One who has an inflation fetish can be called an "inflationist" or "inflation fetishist." |

Types and aspects

No two inflation fetishists share the exact same fantasies. However, inflationists can be roughly divided between (a) those who enjoy it in a purely imaginary manner as a fantasy, and (b) those who attempt it in reality - though there is some overlap between these groups. The following categories could then be thought of as aspects of inflation fetishism that not all inflationists share, but that can exist as arousals for any one inflationist in any combination.

Spherical or total inflation

What could be considered "classic" inflation fetishism - because it is the most usual type of inflation fetishism - is full-body, totally spherical inflation (as depicted above). The subject goes from normal to spherical. The subject does not always have to become spherical, though. Sometimes the subject becomes lopsided or egg-shaped, or sometimes becomes an amorphous blob.

Blueberry inflation

Spherical/total inflationists are usually fans of Violet Beauregarde and use the concept of "blueberrying" on adult characters in their fantasies, where the "inflatee" becomes spherical and blue (although not necessarily due to special gum, as in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.) Consequently, the idea of the subject changing color usually becomes a turn on as well.

Inflation of specific body parts

Most inflationists also enjoy the inflation of specific body parts, the most common being that of the breasts, belly, buttocks, legs, or any combination of these. As with spherical inflation, the subject is usually female and can be inflated by any means, with any substance.

Furry inflation

There is a sub-group within the group of inflation fetishists who enjoy seeing anthropomorphic animals being inflated in all the various, above-stated ways. A large community of furry inflation fetishists dwell on various sites and often roleplay fantasies with one another.

Inflatable clothing and latex

These inflatable suits are made by literally taking two catsuits/ bodysuits and sealing them at the zipper, neck, wrists, and ankles; then adding an inflation valve. Inflationists who want to act out their fantasy but do not want to use any internal (i.e. bodily) methods in doing so often use inflatable latex clothing to pretend they or their partner are inflating. This can be related to inflatable fetishism with the use of latex balloons in normal behaviour and not limited to people with an identified fetish. Women at nightclubs on occasions when balloons are around will often jokily place two in front of their breasts in front of, or underneath, a garment. It is associated with the female desire to have larger breasts often satisfied by the use of silicone breast enlargement by way of plastic surgery, the most notable celebrity to have done so having been Pamela Anderson. For the male, the act of inflation of, for instance, a balloon can be an analogue of the enlargement of male body parts. This is exemplified by balloon fetish videos in which the inflation of balloons is considered to provide excitement often in association of the puffing out of a woman's cheeks in the act of inflation. The balloon fetish climaxes either in the release of energy and excitement in popping, or masturbation upon the smooth surface(s) of the balloon(s). There is another side to this type of fetish and that is the pressure and feel of the latex pressing on the skin with an even pressure. When air is pumped between the two layers, the inner layer presses in on the wearer as the outer layer expands. resulting in an inflatable doll look.

Actual inflation

Inflation fetishism may also refer to one who is aroused by watching or experiencing a pump inflated balloon inserted into one's rectum or the vagina and inflated as to distend the belly. Orgasms experienced this way are usually extremely intense, as the pressure is applied to the entirety of the vagina or cervix.
The term also applies to the fetish of distending the vagina, belly, or cervix to the extreme, sometimes to the point of rupture, though this should by no means be considered the tastes of the "average" inflationist.
Actual inflation may be hazardous. It is recognised that the introduction of air into the vagina, particularly during menstruation or pregnancy, can lead to sudden death by air embolism, but this is not a popular method of inflation. Common methods include the use of air, water, saline or alcoholic beverages, particularly beer due to its gaseous content, often by enema. Those who practice this are usually male and either inflate themselves or females. A popular technique is to insert an aquarium pump hose into the anus and allow the air to fill the colon gradually.
Possible dangers of actual inflation include:
- Perforation of the distended viscera leading to pneumothorax, pneumoperitoneum and peritonitis.
- Air embolism from the entry of a bubble of gas into a blood vessel.
- Water intoxication arising from the use of a hypotonic liquid.
- Alcohol poisoning resulting from the absorption of alcohol, which when absorbed via enema does not pass through the liver and become detoxified to the same extent.
|

Although it is more common for actual inflation to be performed anally, oral inflation is a less popular alternative. In this case, gas or liquid can be introduced via a tube or a Yoga kriya known as Plavini can be employed.
Taking on too much air in the colon could cause it to reverse up through the intestinse and into the stomach. Continuing to take on air could cause the stomach to rupture and that is almost always fatal. However, some inflationists claim that air introduced anally has entered their stomachs and simply results in belching. |

Popping

Another common theme with inflation is to fill the inflatee literally to bursting. It can either be an internal but audible "pop" sound that signals the end of the inflation, but more often is a visible explosion. There are two kinds of popping, realistic, and "Cartoonish". Realistic tends to be graphic, the artist known as Freakinweirdo uses this kind of popping in much of his artwork. The "Cartoonish" style is a less graphic version of this is where they pop like a balloon, and either nothing is left but pieces of rubber floating down, or, in rare cases, the girl is reformed as she was before the inflation. Not all inflationists enjoy popping but it is known throughout the community.

Gender roles in inflationism

The vast majority of inflation fetishists are males who fantasize about females being inflated.
However, a small number of female inflationists exist. The subject of inflation in women's fantasies, however, remains female. In fact, most female inflation fetishists fantasize about their own bodies expanding in any of the above described ways.
Male inflationists, on the other hand, tend to fantasize about observing or causing the inflation of a female. However, a small percentage of inflationists, male and female, enjoy the concept of inflating males. |

Inflationism media

Since inflation fetishism is largely imaginary, inflationists are forced to achieve stimulation through fantasization, which usually involves a variety of aids. These include:
- Still Visuals. These consist mainly of ditigally morphed photographs, drawings, or computer-generated art depicting the inflation of a woman. These stills are sometimes done in sequences so the inflation process can be shown progressively.
- Video. Many films and TV shows exist which depict inflation (e.g. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, That 70's Show, Celebrity Deathmatch, etc.) Inflationists usually have a copy of these films, scenes, or particular episodes to aid fantasization.
- Audio. A more recent aid for inflation fantasies is the acting out of inflation by a female subject on audio. This is tremendously helpful in supplementing visual stimulation and also works by itself. As yet, this service is only offered by CyndIrresistible, who performs scripted or improvized inflation fantasies for a fee.
- Stories. Most inflation-related websites offer a vast amount of stories involving inflation. These cater to any of the many types and aspects of inflation fetishism.
- Games. While there are very few inflation video games, there have been several made by members of the community. These normally involve the inflation as a game mechanic, as in the game "Air Escape" by SketchVG, where the inflation allows the girl you control to fly.

Misconceptions and disputable points

General
Inflation fetishists enjoy "normal" sexual behavior in addition to inflation-related fantasies and activities. Inflation fetishism does not replace typical human sexual desires, but adds to them.
However, inflation fetishism is rarely pornographic in nature and the vast majority of it does not encompass any type of penetration. |

Pregnancy fetishism

Pregnancy fetishism is separate from inflation fetishism. Though some inflationists also have a pregnancy fetish, it is different from inflation fetishism and is not an aspect of it. Obviously, those who enjoy both do so because of the distended effect on the woman. Many inflationists are not pregnancy fetishists.
There are two disputable exceptions. Either:
- if the woman goes from normal to pregnant in such a short span of time that her expansion is visible (after which it falls under the same dispute as weight gain fetishism), or
- the inflationist imagines that the woman is inflated with something other than a fetus.
|

Weight gain fetishism

Weight gain fetishism is disputably neither a type nor aspect of inflation fetishism. There are a few reasons for this. For instance, inflation fetishism deals with the subject being inflated with a foreign substance (typically aqueous or gaseous), whereas weight gain fetishism has to do with a "feedee" consuming and turning food into fat at a visible rate. Though this produces a similar effect of fast growth, weight gain involves stretch marks, unslightly rolls, and other imperfections which are undesirable to an inflationist, in contrast to the smooth, round, aesthetically pleasing shape of an inflated subject. Fans of inflation often also enjoy weight gain, however this does not make them the same.
An argument to the contrary would be that it should not matter what the subject fills with as long as it happens at a visible rate, and that the imperfections inherent in human weight gain can be overlooked or bypassed by engaging in the fetish at a purely imaginary level.
Also, on occasion, an inflationist may fantasize about an "inflatee" being forced to consume vast amounts of a food that is not digested, but instead fills the subject rapidly without becoming fat (also known as stuffing (fetish)). This is not weight gain, but is usually a part in spherical/total inflation fantasies. |

Pedophilia

Inflation fetishism has nothing to do with pedophilia. Though most inflationists find the blueberry scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory sexually arousing, the arousal has nothing to do with the fact that the subject is a minor. This is because the inflation process eliminates distinction between pre-pubescent and mature female bodies by making them totally round.
Other proof of this total disconnection between inflation fetishism and pedophilia is that:
- all newly-generated inflation media including still art and stories involve adult subjects, and
- certain aspects of inflation fetishism, e.g. breast inflation, would not be possible on a pre-pubescent subject.

Origins

The original movie poster for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Very little is known about the origins of inflation fetishism in the human mind aside from the following trends seen in inflationists:
- Early age. Most inflationists discovered their fetish at a very young age (as young as five), experiencing sexual arousal despite being too young to understand the source of their pleasure. It is uncertain whether this sexual reaction, since it is spontaneous, is the result of psychological association or some inborn tendency on the part of the inflationist.
- Visual stimulation. Most inflationists discovered their fetish while watching a cartoon or movie as a child. The most widely noted film for discovery is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, though many have cited Who Framed Roger Rabbit and other Warner Brothers cartoons as the stimulant for their earliest arousal.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory goes along with the standard scheme of a female inflatee and a male observer, though whether the movie caused this trend or is the most popular because of it is a disputable chicken and egg question. |

Reactions

The reaction of people who have no interest in this fetish are varied, but the most notable reactions have been with the art community site deviantART. The inflation community began to post more pieces of inflation art on this site, and many artists began to use this as a handy place to post their art, where they could receive comments and criticisms easily. The popularity of the artists, and the massive amounts of comments and favorites brought some of the artists up on the front page of deviantART. However, this has brought a great deal of criticism on those artists, what with other deviants claiming that what they drew "was not art" or was "twisted and disgusting." Recently, there has been a hate mail "campaign", and while it is difficult to say how many different people have been e-mailing, a large number of inflation artists have been hate-mailed. There is also a small group called "Anti-inflation group".
